NHSFR CONTESTANTS ADVANCE THROUGH THE RANKINGS DURING PERFORMANCE 2

by Siri Stevens

Gillette, WY., July 18, 2016 – Contests of the NHSFR advanced quickly through the rankings

during the second of 13 performances on Monday morning. Several contestants claimed first place in the performance and average results in 7 of 13 events. Although it is still early in the week, these contestants are hunkering down on their pockets and gritting their teeth to have a possible shot at becoming World Champions.

Idaho native, Lindsey Pulsipher, dominated the Goat Tying performance and average standings. She secured a hefty lead in the standings with a time of 7.1 seconds (a whopping .37 secondsnfaster than the 2nd place finisher, Kody Hoss of Colorado). Pulsipher had set a new arena record in goat tying at the IDHSRA State Finals, and enjoys playing volleyball and basketball in her spare time. Cody Hill, also an Idaho native, took the cake in TieDown Roping performance and average results with a quick 9.1 seconds. He leads the average by .15 seconds. Hill is a past High School TieDown Roping Champion, twotime Junior High Team Roping Champion and High School Team Roping Champion. Team Utah’s Stetson Wright scored a hefty 78 points in Saddle Bronc, sending him to the top of the leader board in both the performance and average. Wright is a 16yearold 10th grader. Yet another Utah team member, Rylee White, claimed the No. 1 spot in both the performance and average standings of Pole Bending with a speedy 20.285 seconds. White, a 15yearold  9th freshman, leads the average by .143 seconds. An Arizona based team of Marcos Martinez and John Gaona, Jr., took over the Team Roping standings in the performance and average with 5.49 seconds (more than a second faster than the 2nd place team of Brayden Roe and Breck Ward from Idaho).

Texas’ Samray Hooper sits driverside in the Boys’ Cutting performance and average results with a score of 149 points. This puts Hooper a mere 2 points in front of Team Louisiana’s Karter Bacque. Hooper, a 19yearold senior, is a 4time NHSFR qualifier in Boys’ Cutting. Team Nebraska’s Jayde Atkins claimed the No. 1 spot in Reined Cow Horse performance average standings with a whopping 294.5 points. Atkins was named NHSFR’s Reined Cow Horse Reserve National Champion last year, and enjoys riding colts, drawing and playing basketball in her spare time.

The National High School Rodeo Association facilitates the first and second largest rodeos in the world: National High School Finals Rodeo and National Junior High Finals Rodeo, respectively. This organization allows Canadian, Australian and American youth to participate in the great sport of rodeo throughout the year. The organization was founded in 1949, in response to a dream of Founder Claude Mullins to keep western heritage alive through roping, riding and mentorship.
