Rodeo Season is Just Around the Corner
The Colorado Junior Rodeo Association is excited kick off their 24rd year of hosting youth rodeos around the great state of Colorado. It is from the support of our former members from the beginning (with many bringing in the 2nd generation) to our current members and dedicated sponsors that CJRA can continue to provide quality rodeo experiences for families across the Rocky Mountain States and youth ages 5 – 18.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the CJRA is open to all youth between the ages of 5 and 18 as of January 1st of the current year. Membership dues are $85 if there is one child, $135 for a family. Pee Wee memberships are free. Membership applications must be accompanied by a notarized release waiver, a copy of applicant’s birth certificate, membership payment, and a minimum of $150 in donations for year-end awards must be submitted before winnings will count for the year-end finals.
Make sure to visit the CJRA web site for updated information and forms for this year’s rodeo season including the 2018 revised rule book and 2018 rodeo schedule at: www.coloradojrrodeo.com.
NEW JUNIOR BOYS EVENT
The junior boys will be able to compete in an ‘Assisted Calf Tying’ event for the 2018 CJRA rodeo season. The CJRA board of directors voted to add this event for the upcoming year in an effort to help prepare junior boys for competition in the tie-down roping event in the Sr. Boys Division. In the assisted calf tying, junior boy competitors will rope a calf and then step off and tie the calf with help flanking by a senior boy. We look forward to the partnership of the junior and senior boys in the assisted calf tying event in 2018! Complete rules on this event can be found on our website.
JACE HONEY STEER WRESTLING SCHOOL
Long time CJRA supporter Jace Honey will be hosting Steer Wrestling and Chute Dogging Schools on March 16-18 and March 23-25 in La Junta, Colorado. For more information and/or to register, please see the flyer under the membership tab on the CJRA website or call 719-332-3512.
CJRA SPRING CHALLENGE SERIES
CJRA began the Spring Challenge Series to help their members get prepared for the summer rodeo season and give non-members the opportunity to compete and experience the CJRA. The series has been received with great enthusiasm by both members and non-members – of which many then joined. Seeing the success and realizing the potential of what the series could bring to the association, the board decided to continue to allow the monies won count toward eligibility for the year-end finals for 2018.
“We have welcomed many new members the past two years as a result of our Spring Challenge Series,” said CJRA President Danielle Wollert. “We are excited about the potential this offers to not only our current members but also spark the interest of many more kids wanting to get a start in youth rodeo.”
The first rodeo of the Spring Series Challenge will be held Saturday, March 24th – Sunday, March 25th and the second rodeo of the Spring Series Challenge will be held Saturday, March 31 – Sunday April 1. Both will held at the Latigo Facilities in Black Forest, CO. (See CJRA website for detailed information). Buckles will be awarded to the high money winner in each event at the conclusion of the series and you must have purchased a membership and competed in 3 of the 4 rodeos to be eligible.
This will be a great way to get you and your horse ready for the upcoming summer rodeo season! Watch our website for information on jackpots and details held during the Buckle Series.
“Our committees, board members and office staff are working hard to provide our members with a summer full of great rodeos and fellowship. We hope to see old friends and make new ones,” said Wollert.
