2014 WSRRA National Finals Champion
Open Ranch Rodeo Team
story by Naomi Loomis, WSRRA Representative
Located on the Bruneau River near Bruneau, Idaho, the TL Ranch is home to John Shutte, the captain of the 2014 WSRRA World Champion Ranch Team. Shutte and his teammates, Ira Walker and RC Crutcher from the Duck Valley Shoshone/Paiute Indian Reservation at Owyhee, Nevada, and Jason Eiguren from Jordan Valley, Oregon, took home top honors at the 2014 WSRRA National Finals after competing at WSRRA Ranch Rodeo events for the past two years.
At the 2014 WSRRA National Finals Rodeo in Winnemucca, Nevada, the TL Ranch team competed in Trailer Loading, Sort and Rope Doctoring, Team Roping, Team Branding, Tie-Down Steer Roping and the Working Ranch Horse competition.
“Being a team captain is all about getting everyone together,” said John. Along with getting all the forms turned in, the captain and his teammates are responsible for making sure their team has a winning strategy. The planning resulted in not only their team winning the World Championship, but also in winning top standings at many WSRRA sanctioned events including being the champion team at the prestigious Winnemucca Top Hand Ranch Rodeo in 2014.
The TL Ranch rodeo team members are all skilled, lifelong stockmen and all have roped in competitive situations for many years. “You can find us roping together at the local big loop ropings, jackpot team ropings, and muley ropings,” stated John. They thrive on competition and love to attend WSRRA events.
The TL Ranch members all ride stout, good Quarter Horses. John rode a sorrel that he raised called Miles (Ima Champ Like Lena) at the 2014 WSRRA Finals.
“Glory to God that we get to do fun stuff. We live in a free country. We have the opportunity to showcase what we do every day,” added John. “Being the 2014 WSRRA World Champion Ranch Team is very rewarding to us. Anytime that you can come out on top of the best teams out there makes you feel good.”
On behalf of the WSRRA, we would like to congratulate our 2014 WSRRA World Champion Ranch Team!
