Adeline Hobbs has a giving, servant-like heart.
The thirteen year old cowgirl, a member of the Nebraska Junior High School Rodeo Association, loves to help others, and was able to serve children and the disabled this summer at an Indian reservation in South Dakota.
As for rodeo, she competes in the pole bending, breakaway, barrels, goat tying, and as a runner for Pake Haun in the ribbon roping.
She lives in Mitchell, Neb., and is an eighth grade student at Mitchell Junior High School. Sports are the best part of school, but math is not her favorite: “it’s not my thing,” she said. She plays volleyball and basketball and does the long jump in track, and plays soccer in a league outside of school time. Next year, as a Mitchell High School Tiger, she plans on playing volleyball and basketball, but may not go out for track, depending on rodeo.
Her favorite teacher ever is Miss Clark, her seventh grade science teacher, who helped her through some hard times.
This summer, for fun, she spent a week and a half in Oklahoma visiting family, boating, and fishing.
She also spent four and a half days in Martin, S.D., on a youth group mission trip, where she put her compassion into practice. The youth painted houses for disabled and elderly people, and spent time playing with young kids from the reservation. It was her first time on the mission trip, and she loved it. “I thought it was important,” she said. “We helped kids who didn’t have as much as we do, and we had fun with them.” She’d love to do the trip a second time. She is also active in St. Teresa’s Youth Group.
In addition to sports, Adeline is a member of the quiz bowl, participated in the spelling bee last year, and does 4-H horse shows.
She has qualified for the state finals both her sixth and seventh grade years.
When she grows up, she’d like to be a nurse or pediatrician, because she loves to help kids.
Adeline has a younger sister, Avery, who is eleven, and a younger brother, Ace, who is eight. She is the daughter of Katie Hobbs and Chad Hobbs.
