Meet the Member Caseyn Pearson

It’s all his brother’s fault, that Noah Jones is the Idaho Cowboys Association saddle bronc riding director.
But he doesn’t mind.
It all happened during the 2021 ICA finals general membership meeting. Noah, his brother Clancy Glenn, and fellow saddle bronc rider Wacey Portenier arrived late to the meeting. Matt Askew walked up to them and said, “since you guys are late, one of you has to be the director,” Noah said. “And they both looked at me,” he laughed.
Clancy “is always the cause of me being late.”
He likes the role. “I enjoy knowing what’s going on.” His duties include being at the meetings, organizing the horses for the finals, voting on rules, and more. “It’s fun.”
Noah, who lives in Sand Hollow, Idaho, graduated from Parma High School in 2020. He became an ICA member his junior year, but didn’t use the card much till he was a high school senior.
After graduation, he took a job at a ranch in Pendleton, Ore., then moved back to Idaho. He works for a fencing company in New Plymouth. In the summer they fence nearly anything: pasture in the middle of the desert, post and pole fencing, and even form boards for a custom eight-foot concrete wall. “We do a whole lot of everything,” he said.
In the summer, they work long hours Monday through Thursday so they can take off for the weekend to rodeo. The boss, Trent Bullock, is understanding when his employees need to get to a rodeo. Noah works alongside Bo DerShawn, another rodeo contestant.
Noah has competed at the ICA finals four times (2019-2022) and last year, finished in the top ten.
His favorite bucking horse to get on is Mrs. Longview, owned by Kelly Bowcutt. Noah has ridden her three of the four times he’s drawn her. He’s drawn her at Grangeville twice, winning first on her once and third another time. “She’s such a cool horse,” he said. “If you do your stuff right, you can win money on her.”
She’s a beautiful horse, too, with roan coloring in the summer and a darker coat in the winter. She’s not very big, “but she’s gorgeous,” Noah said.
In his rodeo career, Noah has encountered his share of slumps, but he knows how to get out of them. Slumps for him, “are all mental,” he said. “My body knows how to ride bucking horses, but the part I struggle with is my brain telling me I can’t. The only way I’ve found is to practice physically. Work out, get on the spur board.
“Sometimes I’ll go three or four horses with a mental block, and you might get on the spur board a couple of times, or you’ll change up a couple things, and it’ll go back to normal.”
For fun, he likes to jump off cliffs into the river and fish, catching bass and catfish. Last summer, nearly every evening after work, he and his friends were out on the boat.
He also likes to barbecue. “I’m not the best in the kitchen, but put me in front of a barbecue, and I can cook up some burgers and steaks.” He makes specialties like alfredo pasta with deer steaks, fish tacos, and other dishes.
His favorite holiday is July 4th, because “that’s when the majority of the rodeos are. That’s a cowboy’s favorite time of the year.”
If he were given $1 million, he’d buy a ranch “somewhere away from people,” maybe north of Emmett or in the Nevada desert.
He can be a morning person or a night owl, depending on what needs to get done. “I don’t mind getting up for work in the mornings, but sometimes the night owl gets ahold of me and I don’t want to get up in the mornings,” he said. The wintertime is especially hard because he moves snow for his job, and sometimes the boss calls at 2 am. But “you get used to it.”
