Linzie Van Horn loves to have a little fun.
The Nebraska High School Rodeo Association member is known among her classmates as being the one who keeps things lighthearted.
And when she’s not “going with the flow,” as she says, she’s tying goats and breakaway roping.
She lives ten miles south of Page, Neb., and rides a nine year old sorrel for the breakaway. Papa John, as he is called, is “pretty sweet. He’s been great for our situation.” For the goat tying, she rides a seven year old black mare named Molly, who is a “go-getter. She loves goat tying, for sure.” Linzie can’t choose a favorite between the horses; “they both do their jobs really well. Mostly it comes down to if I do my job correctly.”
Linzie is a senior at Ewing Public School. She enjoys school, but she’s been ready for graduation since her freshman year. “I’m really, really excited for college,” she said, “and the fact that I get to meet new people and have different experiences. It’ll definitely be more choices, which can be harder, but at the same time, I’m excited to learn new things.”
She has trouble picking a favorite subject. “Honestly, I’d rather not be in a classroom,” but if she had to choose one, it’d be English. She likes to write, especially on topics of her choice. She was homeschooled through the eighth grade, and she really enjoyed it.
Linzie plays basketball, and is a member of FCA, FBLA, E-Club, the National Honor Society, One Acts, and Speech. She is also on her school’s honor roll.
For fun, she likes to hang out with family and friends and practice together. She often practices with her younger brother, and her older sister, when she is home from college.
She has qualified for state finals the past three years of her high school career in both events, and made it to Nationals her eighth grade year in both goat tying and breakaway.
She often goes by the nickname of “Zee.” She has an older brother, Lane, who is married to Emily, an older sister, Erin, and a younger brother, Merit.
She is the daughter of Alan and Trudie Van Horn.
