In the Permian Basin of West Texas, you will discover Andrews, Texas which is home to Jett Fisher. Son of Vin and Candace Fisher, Jett is 14 years old. He is the oldest sibling of three, his brother, Mack (nine) and his sister, Danlee (12). Where Jett goes a hard work ethic always follows him!
Jett attends Andrews High School where he is a freshman. “I compete in basketball, football, and baseball. I enjoy playing sports at school because, until recently, it hasn’t been something I have done since I was younger. It is something that I enjoy putting most of my time and effort into.” School sports and rodeo go hand in hand occasionally when it comes to life lessons. “I think that in some ways they teach the same things as rodeo. They teach you how hard work is important and that goes for every sport including rodeo.” When Jett is not working towards his goals in rodeo nor playing for his school, he enjoys his time off. “ In my spare time at home, I love to hang out with my family and spend as much time with them as possible, but another thing that I like to do is spend time and play basketball with some of my friends.”
Jett competes in calf roping and team roping. “My favorite of the two events is roping calves. It requires great rope handling and consistent ground skills.” However, rodeoing would not be possible without our teammates. “My go to horse is a grey gelding named Lunchbox because you can rope calves on him, head on him, trip steers on him, or even work cattle. He is a great all around horse and has always been reliable. He is the horse that I headed on all this year and last year. One fun fact about him is that Bryce Davis won the average at the National Steer Roping Finals riding him one year.”
This well rounded cowboy is active in the American Junior Rodeo Association and Texas High School Rodeo Association. “I have won the 2020 AJRA 11-14 Boys Reserve Heading World Championship and was also a THSRA State Qualifier.” Despite team roping and calf roping being Jett’s current events, he has also grown up around steer roping. “My dad is Vin Fisher and he has qualified for the National Steer Roping Finals (NFSR) 17 times now and has been the Reserve World Champion two different times. His goal is to win a World Champion gold buckle before his career is over. Despite him being a successful steer roper, he is more than that to me. He is the most loving, caring person that I know and he would do anything to support our family.” To the Fisher’s, a united family is a treasured sentiment.
In spite of Jett having four more years to figure out what his future looks like, he already has an idea of what his plans for the future consists of. “Once I finish high school, I plan to attend Texas Tech University. I hope to study to major in Business and gain my degree.” Jett obtains a faith in His plans by utilizing His teachings in his own promising future. “My favorite quote is ‘God’s big ranch called life’ from Aaron Watson. I believe we are like God’s cattle and that we were created to worship Him. A bible verse I love is Romans 8:28 ‘And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.’ I know His plans always work out for the best, no matter what.”
