Meet the Member Cassidy Evans
Story by Heidi Geesen
Fort Supply, Oklahoma is located just a hop, skip, and a jump from Woodward, Oklahoma in Northwest Oklahoma. Fort Supply town with deep historic roots that began as an army supply fort for the campaign against the Southern Plain Indians. In 1903 a town was built next to Fort Supply simply called “Supply.” In 1908 the State of Oklahoma transformed the derelict army post into what most people now days know Fort Supply for, Western Oklahoma State Hospital, the first state operated mental institution. May 1, 1943, the people of Supply, changed the post office and town to, Fort Supply.
In October Fort Supply’s historic root got a little deeper. This time that history came in the form of rodeo when Colorado said goodbye to what might be arguably the best young rodeo cowgirl the state had ever seen or produced and Fort Supply got to say hello. Cassidy Evans, a 15-year-old freshman and reigning CJRA All-around and National Junior High Rodeo Association Finals All-around cowgirl, now calls Fort Supply, Oklahoma home. Cassidy and her amazing partner, Hotshot, have year-titles in the barrels and poles in the CJRA, NLBRA, NJHSRA, Young Guns to mention a few. They also have 2019 and 2021 Pole Bending World Titles to add to their resumes.
Cassidy doesn’t end her talent with the barrels and poles though. This all-around cowgirl spreads her talents to the roping as well. 2021 would see her add CJRA titles in the Team Roping, with her brother Cash heeling for her, and the breakaway. Winning in the CJRA has been all she has done since she cracked out in the rodeo world at the age of 7 on her trusty mounts Mocha and of course, Hotshot.
When not on the rodeo trail Cassidy likes spending her time doing ranch work and training colts. Her love for training horses has led to a business endeavor with her three brothers Coy 16, Cash 15 and youngest brother Cross 10 called “Rafter C Performance Horses.” Her proudest moment to date was winning the National Junior High Rodeo Finals All Around Champion Cowgirl in 2021.
Staying positive and having a good attitude no matter how hard time gets is a quote she lives by. Cassidy’s idols include Jackie Crawford and Ashley Schafer. She also says that Ashley would be her favorite celebrity and if she could spend one day with anyone, she would spend it with Ashley. Cleaning stalls is her most disliked chore that she has.
When asked about who her favorite Superhero is, Cassidy thought for a minute and then said, “Captain America. Plus, his real name is Chris Evans.” One bucket list goal that she hasn’t quite fulfilled is winning a High School National Championship in the Pole Bending.
Favorite TV Show: Heartland
Favorite pet other than her horse is her cute little dog Skid boot.
One thing that nobody knows about Cassidy is that she likes to paint, and Megan (mom) says she is really good at it.
